The polenta or the "Plenten" also "Tirggen" as the grain variety corn is called here was once a staple food in the Ötztal and has saved many from starvation in the poorest time. In the meantime, this versatile cereal has completely disappeared from many cuisines. A miller in Haiming at the entrance to the Ötztal started growing maize organically again a few years ago and processing it in his mill. Other dishes from our childhood are "Tirrgas Mues" and "Jagarsterz"
